Vision Boards: How To Make One And The Ways It Can Change Your Life
Whether you’re someone who believes in the magic of vision boards or not, there is definitive proof that visualising your goals and aspirations does help them come true. Visualisation can be a powerful mental exercise and, while it doesn’t sound like much, a vision board of personal photos, quotes and messages is an effective way of doing it. Having a special and personal display of who you want to be and the life you want to live, in a place you see often will help you exercise visualisation every day in small doses. According to Rhonda Byrne, author of the best-selling booth The Secret, “the law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualising, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.” If you still need convincing, here are some of the main benefits to creating a vision board…
Bring Clarity to Your Goals
If you’re unclear about what you want, your mind won’t be able to come up with ways to achieve it. Having a clear vision of your dreams and goals, and surrounding yourself with visual reminders of them will enable your mind to take action on them – consciously or not! Deciding definitively what you want to achieve, and getting rid of the noise and clutter will also help you focus yourself and achieve the goals you really want in life. When it comes to putting them on your vision board, be specific and don’t sell your dreams short, no matter how unattainable you think they might be! A vision board is a great opportunity and exercise in going beyond what you think is possible.
Stay motivated, productive and positive
A vision board will also help give you direction, because by having your goals constantly in your mind, you’ll always know what you’re working towards. Especially when the going gets tough, a vision board and knowing what end goal you have in mind will help you stay inspired and motivated to achieve your goals despite any challenges you might face along the way. Surrounding yourself with positive affirmations and visualisations of the life you want to have will in turn encourage your brain to have more positive thoughts!
Increase chances of success
Still think vision boards are a bunch of hokey pokey? Well – here’s that definitive proof I was talking about earlier! Surveys have found that people who created a vision board relating to their aspirations are almost twice more confident that they will achieve their goals than those who hadn’t created a vision board. Another survey found that 82% of small business owners who had vision boards found they accomplished over half of the goals they had on their boards.
So with all these benefits, what’ve you got to lose!? Go ahead and put together a vision board and see what it can do for your life. Here are some tips we picked up for making your vision board making sesh as productive as possible!
How to make the perfect vision board
The beauty of a vision board is that there’s no one size fits all – what makes them work is that they’re unique, tailored to you and make you feel a certain way. So, create your vision board with things that inspire and motivate you, like quotes, handwritten messages from loved ones, photos, embellishments, etc. Think about the goals you want to achieve in your life, whether they be in your relationships, career, finances, home, travel, personal growth and health. You can also decide if you want to have one central vision board for your life, or more focused theme boards that might centre on certain life aspects or events. It also helps to write down your goals as well as visualise them. Writing them down helps you articulate what you really want and putting pen to paper can be a very therapeutic exercise! Pop your goals on one of our cute notepads and pin it to your vision board, or keep them private in one of our notebooks.
When it comes to actually putting your board together, you’ll need some type of board (cork, poster or pin) and scissors, tape, pins and/or glue. Give yourself time to put your vision board together – put on your favourite music, light a candle, and relax.
