How To: Switch Off From Work and ACTUALLY Relax These Holidays
Feel like one minute it was January, then you blinked and BAM it’s the end of December? Don’t worry, us too.
So it’s officially holidays! The two weeks of work-free-you-time-bliss you’ve been daydreaming about for about the last 364 days... But the fact is, sometimes it seems almost impossible to hit the ‘off’ switch in your brain to everything keeping you from your much deserved relaxation time, especially if you’re holiday plans don’t involve you packing a suitcase and jetting off to the Greek islands. Don’t worry though gals, we got you. Here are our top tips for any gals trying to make the most of this precious silly season a
We get it, when you come home from work feeling like all you did for the past eight hours was stare at words, the last thing you feel like doing is putting your brain through MORE suffering reading. But now that it’s holidays, it may be time to pick up that fabulous book you’ve been desperate to read! You know, the one currently collecting dust on your side table... If you whiz through that one, we’ve got a few we totally recommend here.
Picnic in the park
Any social activity that involves girlfriends, cheese and wine gets one big YES from the Blushing team! But if you’re anything like us, there is absolutely nothing that refuels you more than a good catch up with your besties! So hit up your closest gal pals and organise an afternoon in the park - nibbles compulsory. Anywhere you can throw down a picnic rug and sit around a cheese platter will do, but you may want to step up your picnic game by heading to a nice lookout point, botanical garden, or beachside grassy spot.
Take a day to explore
Yes, that super photogenic waterfall you’ve been screenshotting on Insta for the last three months is still there, so why aren’t you? To make the most of your day trip, we suggest waking up with the sun, because there’s nothing more exciting than heading off an adventure at the crack of dawn. Plus you’ll have ALL DAY to enjoy being away before you have to snap back to reality. The escape from all your usual hangouts will not only make you feel like you’ve had a mini-holiday, but your Insta game will be stronger for it, so it’s a win-win really. Jot down your favourite sights and need-to-knows and in a travel journal to keep the memories alive well past the break.
Succumb to a day-long Netflix binge
Don’t let anyone tell you that lazy days are lazy, you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. Leave your pyjamas on, don’t brush your hair…heck, don’t even get out of bed! Except for trips to the fridge of course, a gal’s still gotta eat. But seriously, once you finally sit down to that Netflix series you’ve been desperate to watch all year, you’ll feel ready to get back to work in the New Year, craving free. Until the next season of [insert whatever it is you’re into] is released that is, then you’re screwed. But nevertheless, this is a temporary fix worth indulging in! Plus you’ll be able to join in on all the social chatter about how great Bob and Lisa are together and how much you hate Kate for being a bitch to Sarah. So really, it’s essential for social etiquette purposes... That’s what we’re telling ourselves anyway.
Set some #goals
After you’ve enjoyed some well-deserved down time and fun, you’ll feel totally ready to get out your notebook/journal or equivalent to get yourself motivated for all the wonderful things you’re going to make happen this year! No, we don’t mean New Year’s resolutions you’ll give up by February. We’re talking about financial, personal, health, and work GOALS that are realistic and achievable. We’ve heard writing our goals down helps the universe do its thang and make them happen, so why not give it a go? We have some super cute notebooks to get you in the mood here.
